Selkie Awards 2025!

I wanted to jump on briefly with a cool announcement. My book Graphic Novel Builder: The Illustrated Guide to Making Your Own Comics has won Best Graphic Novel at this year’s Selkie Awards!

Instagram Post

My book was up for the award beside four other really amazing graphic novels from artists working in Scotland, so I couldn’t be happier to be chosen by the judges.

I’ve been self-publishing since 2009, and it’s been amazing to watch comics in Scotland grow over that time, from a quiet, disparate scene to the vibrant and interesting one we see today. I think it’s a testament to the artists putting their work out there, alongside the efforts of shops, awards organisers, festival organisers and audiences too, that comics in Scotland feel like a really exciting place - even despite all the challenges we face. A huge thanks is due then to those people out there putting the work in to grow this artform and put Scotland on the map as a place where comics can thrive.

Colourful illustrated comic panel. Teenage girl Ash with green hair and leather punk jacket poses enthusiastically with a series of comics and graphic novels. In the background are pink stars and action lines. She says: You’re only looking at the COOLEST, AWESOME-EST, most ANCIENT-EST artform out there!

If you’re looking for a holiday gift, please consider one of my books!

That’s all for now, but I’m hoping to come back to you in 2026 with some cool updates and exciting glimpses of work in progress…
